Nokia Series 40 iSync plugin

October 29th, 2009

Background

Nokia iSync PluginsI have used a script I have written to generate an iSync Plugin (MetaClasses.plist) for getting your nokia series 40 phone to work with iSync 2.4 and iSync 3.0 (Note: this doesn’t work for 3.1!!!!)

This script has been tested on a number of nokia mobiles and proven to work, other series 40 phones, if you download a plugin and find try it out please add a comment with your findings so we can keep everyone upto date.

These plugins will only work when connecting your mobile Via bluetooth!

note: Where better plugins have become available I have replaced my plugin with a link to the relevant external site (good example being the 6500 Classic).

Installation Instruction

  • Right click iSync from the with applications in the finder and “show package contents”
  • Navigate to: ContentsPluginsApplePhoneConduit.syncdeviceContentsPluginsNokia-6131.phonepluginContentsResources

!!! make a backup of MetaClasses.plist !!!

  • replace contents of MetaClasses.plist with the relevant iSync plugin (text file downloaded from here)for your nokia mobile!

Tested Nokia Isync Pugins

These are the plugins that are known to work thanks to all who posted comments on the priginalblog post and this page

as yet untested Nokia Isync Pugins

if you use a plugin and you find it works please post a comment and let us know!

I’ve just tried a Nokia 6020 and had no success. iSync 2.4 could not find the device – the Add Device dialog box says “no device found”.

2865i (from MetroPCS) shows “this device is not supported by iSync” over BT, but isn’t recognized at all over USB.

    The 6275i does NOT work.

The phone lacks the SyncML service, which means that it is significantly different from most other Series 40 phones, and AFAIK iSync requires SyncML to work.

    Hi,

The NOKIA 6233 Script works fine, but there seems to be a bug in apple mail when handling with todo’s created on other devices or just in iCal. After the sync was finished apple mail didn’t work anymore. I found the following thread dealing with the same problem and was able to fix the problem by deleting the todo’s that had been transferred from my mobile:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5860690

Conclusion: The script is perfect! (I hope apple will soon fix the mentioned bug…but it’s not too evil ;-)

Why two entries for the 6131? I tried the second one, and it works fine. They both link to the same txt file and the same specs on the nokia site. any difference in the code?

Well spotted, I was waiting for someone to point that out ,,, :) . Ok my mistake, yes the code was the same for both.

    Thankyou James,

After some trial and error as a complete novice I worked out the Metaclasses.plist file needed to be opened as a text file to be edited.

Once I worked that out your script works great! Able to sync contacts on a new 6500c… If you’re ever in Sydney I wanna shout you a beer!!!

Yes the slide doesn’t work. Its difficult to debug all the phones when I only have a 6085.

But the phones in green at the top do work, and in yellow may work but people havn’t told me.

    Hello

I just got a Nokia 6500 Classic and want to sync only the contacts from the Address Book on my Mac Book Pro. Is this possible with your script ?? Also, I dont fully understand the installation instructions – I can locate the file but dont understand how to replace it with your plugin – when I click on your plugin, I just get text in Safari and dont know what to do from there

Thanks in advance for your help

Works fine with the 3110 classic. I used the 3109 metalist, placed it in the 6131 folder, and did a find/replace on “3109″ with “3110″ in the metalist file itself.

It’s jsut sync’d perfectly with my MBP, and N95.

Not surprisingly, Nokia Multimedia transfer tool doesn’t recognise it.

The plugin seems to work with the Nokia 6234. But the memory on the 6234 fills pretty quickly – mine couldn’t even get past 500 contacts.

Hi and thanks for this, however…

I might be being completely stupid but I cannot get the 6500 script to work.
Can you give a step by step instruction for the “replace the contents of MetaClasses.plist” bit, because whatever I do, it just dosen’t seem to work.

Sorry to be such a noob, but I’m desperate here!

    Thanks, Andy

here is the key for the 5310. I tried and it works :

    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060404013821717

I was able to adapt this to my new Nokia 5310 XpressMusic phone!

I used the updated instructions above (“Creating your own iSync Phone Plug-in for OS X 10.4.9 iSync 2.4″ http://www.macosxhints.com/comment.php?mode=view&cid=86309 ), except for the following little change:

In the MetaClasses.plist file described in the mentioned comment, add the string “XpressMusic” to the line
    Nokia Nokia 5310
. After adding the string, this line becomes
    Nokia Nokia 5310 XpressMusic
This seems to be needed or iSync will not recognise the 5310.

Ahh annd the best: Even Address Book images get synchronised as with S60 phones!

The only thing I’m still missing but haven’t seem on any phone (except probably the iPhone) yet is a syncing of address groups to my nokia phone.
I wonder if there is a public API that could help in implementing this.

    Cheers,
    Simon

    HEy,

installed 6500c plugin worked after 4th retry,

(had an empty space from editing the plist first,

then forgot to quit isync so a sfety backup would appear and keep the new plist from functioning)

but did not sync phonenumbers, calendars worked fine…

    I checked merge data

made a new group in adress book,

called it phone and synced it, with no result.

    then, i don´t know how,

isync did not show the merge or erease checkbox anymore…

i tried to sync anyway and my numbers are gone:(

    any idea about recovery options?

    best greetings

It works for my Nokia 3110 classic. I used 3109 plugin and exchanged every 3109 to 3110 in the file and put this file into 6131 family folder as written in instruction. I used only calendar synchronization, but I think it should also work for Address Book. Thanks James !

I am wanting to be able to surf the web on my MacBook Pro through Nokia 2865i. Will your script allow me to do that? I have MetroPCS for a carrier and they told me (after a very long hold time) that it was not supported. I don’t mind if its slow, but I gotta get access when I am mobile. Suggestions?

Not at all this is specifically for being able to use iSync with your nokia phone, so just the syning of calendar and contacts. To be able to use the phone as a modem you would need to check the settings when pairing the phone via bluetooth. Though I have never done this.

    Hi,

I have encountered a problem using iSync with the Nokia 6085 and an old iBook. The iBook is running 10.4.11, iSync 2.4 and is equipped with an SE bluetooth dongle.
I am able to pair the phone with the computer and can browse the Nokia 6085 via the Bluetooth Prefence Menu, putting on extra ringtones and so forth.
I downloaded the iSync plugin here and set up the Nokia 6085 in iSync, but all attempts in syncing fail:
The iSync log shows the following error message:
12:33:28 Error [Nokia 6085] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.

12:33:28 Error Device “Nokia 6085″ synchronization failed
Whereas the phone diplays: Sync failed. …. Unable to process all items. ..

    Any hints?

    thks, aki

ow okay … so i’ve seen there’s a similar file for adressbook in his package : /Contents/Resources/Telephony.bundle (which is also a package) -> /Contents/Resources/ABDeviceCommandSets.plist

I’ll try to change something in this one to make it work with sms incoming. If someone else want to try …

Nokia Classic 6500 – Manage to sync Calendar but not Contacts – All contacts deleted from my phone though. Is there a solution? Thanks!

  70. Hans Ziegler
    January 1st, 2008 at 04:38 | #70

    Hi James,

nice work there. Basic sync works excellent.

After having worked with the phone for some time now, I’ve found a few glitches when syncing my 6500 classic with iSync under Leopard (haven’t tried other versions though).

The problems only occur when syncing back, i.e. contacts have been transmitted to the phone and, some time later, I’m syncing again. At this point, iSync reports contacts would have changed:

    1. Company names seems to get deleted
    2. German umlauts in Notes seem to be converted somehow (e.g. an ‘ä’ converts to a two characters: ‘Ãø’ (the latter appears to be an o over an x; ‘ü’ converts to ‘Ã1/4′ where ‘1/4′ is one character.
    3. Display type seems to get deleted (has been ‘person’ or ‘company’, empty after syncing back)
    4. Long notes appear to be truncated.
    5. Birthdays seem to get deleted.
    6. Job titles seem to get deleted.
    7. Images seem to get deleted!

I think it’s fine if the phone doesn’t support certain fields but they should not be overwritting/modified/deleted when syncing back.

Thanks for any help. Drop me a note if I can be of any help figuring out what goes wrong there.

Oh, and happy new year! :)

    Cheers,
    -Hans

I have tried and tried but I cannot get the 6085 plug in to work under Leopard. I opened the existing MetaClasses.plist with DashCode, highlighted all the original text, pasted over it with yours, saved and quit. When I launch iSync it tells me “iSync cannot connect to this device” for my phone. I feel pretty dumb reading everyone else’s immediate easy success… any tips?

When syncing to my 6085, the sync only seems to work with a group called “AddressBook” in Mac Address Book. If I change the group’s name to “PhoneBook” or similar, the sync fails. No big – easy enough to work around – thank you very much for this plugin!

  78. Aaron K
    January 5th, 2008 at 02:24 | #78

Check that – it actually seems that it will only sync with a particular group once. If I rename the group, or choose a different group, it syncs normally. Switching to a different group seems to require unpairing both the phone and the computer, removing the phone from iSync, then repairing and reinstalling the phone to iSync. Any ideas as to why?

    6500 classic:
Hi, I had the same problem with the 6500 classic. I installed the script fine but it only syncs calendar. The contacts don’t get synced. Is it trying to sync contacts from the phone to the mac address book? or the other way round ?

    thanks

    Thank You!

Great jop, James! Very helpful, thanks a million! I have a brand-new Nokia 3110 Classic here and followed above with the MetaClasses.plist file given for Nokia 3109. Simply replaced all 3109 with 3110 in the file with TestEdit. Contacts are syncing perfectly now, didn’t test Calender entries. :)

Thanks, James. Plug-in for Nokia 5310 XpressMusic works with iSync 3.0 on Leopard for both contacts and calendar. I put the plug-in into Library/PhonePlugins. No bugs detected so far. You have obviously already changed the plug-in to include the string “Nokia Nokia 5310 XpressMusic” as suggested by fifibrindacier. Thanks very much

This great with the Nokia 2630 – but everyone already knew that..
    .. so thanks, James!

I own a mac, and I wad NOT going to re-enter all my saved contacts (from the Mac) into my new phone!
And the only reason I got this particular phone was the
    low-cost BlueTooth iSync plugin combination.

So I guess ol’ Apple Inc and Nokia should also sit up and take note of this solution.

    Great work, James.

Nokia 6102i works, but you have to change some of the code from,(family.com.nokia.series40.3rdEd.bus.bt) to, (family.com.nokia.series40.bus.bt) the reason being, is that the 6102i is a 2nd edition phone and if not changed you will in turn, get the error message “no authorization” on the phone and iSync will report that it can’t push data to the phone unless this line of code is changed. This could also be a problem for those of you who are trying to sync with other Nokia versions. Be sure to check to see what series and edition your phone is. Here is the website that I found where I was able to decipher this information. Any suggestion or need help post it and I would be more than happy to help :) .

Nokia 3110c users: THIS DOES WORK! I spent ages trying to get it to sync with my macbook pro without success; it would sync the calendar, but contacts would sync 44 of 56 and then the phone would reset itself. Solution: Clear the phone memory for the first isync…. Make sure you back up any Contacts to the Sim Card, Select: Use Phone Memory, and delete all contacts. Then commence with isync and it works. Please persevere because once sorted this is great, and well done James, you deserve some recognition for helping us all!

    Hi,

I’m trying to sync my 6500 slide with my macbook (running leopard). I’m a total novice, and have tried and tried, but it just isn’t working! Is there any really clear step-by-step guide out there?

It’s frustrating to know it can work, but I can’t do it!

From above comments – looks like you can work magic James.

    Thanks, C

    Hi James,

Like a few 6500 classic owners here, I can only manage to Sync calendars. Phone numbers were not synced from the phone to Addressbook, but only from Addressbook to Sync, though the phone sync progress shows them being synced. In addition, multiple entries were created when syncing (from Addressbook to phone). Syncing calendars worked well though.

    iSync 3.0, Leopard 10.5.1

    Hi,

I have used your plugin for my Nokia 6500 Classic, and it has been working perfect untill I updated my phones software. My current and new phone software is version 04.84.

The problem occurs after sending 4-5 contacts. Then iSync tells me that an error occured while syncronizing and that the phone might have disconnected the connection.

Have you heard of this problem and do you know how to fix it?

    Thanks

Thanks for setting up this resource, I was beginning to feel a bit lost. I have replaced the MetaClass.plist as directed with the plug in for the Nokia 6301 which shows up in finder simply as a web location. I’m not understanding something, I have tried opening the file which is a txt file of code but don’t know what to do with it or how the file is activated. I can find no information in isync on how to add plug ins.

Any help would be gratefully received

Thanks for Nokia 6500 classic plug-in. Synchronized 1500 contacts calendar. Worked beautifully. Two remarks: 1) the comment field in the OSX address book is truncated once transferred in the Nokia (would it be possible to lift this limitation ?) – 2) in the calendar, full day events appear in the Nokia as an event with variable times (sometimes 6am, very often 1pm).

    Hi,

I try to install the plugin for my Nokia 2630. I’m working in Leopard with iSync 3.0.
I followed the install instructions as described at the beginning of this page but I’m not able to finish them. This is my problem :

The instructions say “Right click iSync from the with applications in the finder and “show package contents”. Navigate to: Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\Plugins\Nokia-6131.phoneplugin\Contents\Resources”

I can navigate to Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\Plugins\ but Nokia-6131.phoneplugin is not a directory. This file can only be opened with the application iSync Plug-in Maker which is installed on my system.

I was not able to change the content of the file MetaClasses.plist.

I’m new to MacOSX and I don’t know what I can do to install the plugin.
Can someone help me out? Probably I’m doing something wrong but I cannot figure out what.

The problem is that the phone is not actually called “8600″ but “8600 Luna” so I changed the following lines:

    com.apple.cgmi cgmm
    Nokia Nokia 8600 Luna
    com.apple.gmi gmm
    Nokia Nokia 8600 Luna
    com.apple.usb.vendorid-modelid

    Hi James,

Bought 5310 Express Music, followed your installation advise, did work fine to get contacts on it but crashed seconds after. I can not revive it.

Anybody knows where to get IMET list, noticed difference in IMET number on sticker and one you call by *#06#. Apparently digits in place 7 and 8 denote country of manufacture and list names the country. For Nokia Finland should be 00, China 02 and so on.

    Many thanx

    Hi,
Ive tried the plugin with my 2630 and OSX 10.4.11.
It comes up visible in iSync, but it will sync a different amount of contacts every time.
I’ve even shortened my list right down to just include the 200 or so phone numbers i need in there but it seems to be getting stuck on something.
I’ve reset the phone a couple of times, rebooted the computer etc and tried again.
I’d love to find out what the problem is. It seems to work so well for a minute then hangs :(

    Cheers

this is great, and ahead of Nokia :-) I followed your instructions for download and replacement but face two problems:

1- I get to the content of my iSync package but there are no plugins whatsoever, only a folder named plugins, and there is no metaclasses.plist files anywhere in the content folder or on my Mac for that matter???

2- when I select the pluging for the 6500 on your page, I get a new page with code… not a file?

So, what am I doing wrong? What should I do?

    Hello,

    seems to be great work!

Du you have any idea how to tell iSync for a series 40 phone to store the contact name not as surname space name but as name comma space surname?

Maybe there is an option to the vCard-Parser? Or any other option to do some “scripting” inside the iSync-process?

Well, it took me a while to understand how to proceed with this… so I though that I should share my findings ;-)

INSTALATION INSTRUCTIONS IN MORE DETAILS… for those, like me, who didn’t get it right away ;-)

    – First: click on the link to the pluging for your phone. A new page will open with text (code). Select all and copy the content of this page (It is now on your computer’s clip board).

    – Then: right click (ctrl click) iSync from within the applications’ folder in the finder and choose: “show package contents”

    – Navigate to: Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\Plugins
    \Nokia-6131.phoneplugin\Contents\Resources

    - MAKE A BACK UP OF MetaClasses.plist and put it in a safe place ;-)

    – Then right click (ctrl click) on the MetaClasses.plist file and choose: “open with/other” and choose “TextEdit” (You should now see the content of the MetaClasses.plist file as a text (code) file. Much like the one from the pluging link you copied to the clipboard). Do a “select all”, “delete” and then “paste” to replace the contents of MetaClasses.plist file with the relevant iSync plugin for your Nokia mobile! SAVE your changes and quit TextEdit.

Now you can open iSync and set up your phone by choosing “add device” in the menu bar :-)

    February 12th, 2008 at 05:09 | #132

I suspect these anomolies are caused by the phone reformating the entry, also with the calendar sync issues. These could be the reason why the main stream support for extra phones using iSync isnt so great. Note though that 10.5.2 is out today and includes iSync updates (officially for 2 samsung phones, but wouldnt be surprised if there is further updates included).

    Hi James,

I got this to work with my Nokia 6301 under Tiger, but since the Leopard came to town I can only sync calendar items – the phone book is empty.

Perhaps my installation method is wrong – I copied the 6131 plugin, made the changes, then renamed it as a 6301 plugin. iSync recognised it immediately and synced, except that it always says the phone cancelled synchronisation. Should I follow your installation method?

Pending some resolution I have changed phones for now, but I’d like to get back to the 6301.

    Thanks

I downloaded and insatlled the plugin for the 6500c. It worked great the first time, but on subsequent syncs it tends to “double up” on some of my contacts.
I haven’t found a pattern yet but I’m leaning toward that it doubles contacts that have been edited AND also have a “company name” listed in the data.

Hi James, I see you made a lot of iSync plugin script, I’m happy to see that. But it might be an idea to embed theme in a real plugin like this guy ( http://klauskjeldsen.dk/2007/06/08/free-nokia-6300-isync-plugin/ ) did with the nokia 6300 plugin I use. It is a bit easier install… just an idea?

I’ve just tried this for Nokia 6500 C, but it didn’t work for me??? It seems that all others with 6500 get it to work.

I’ve found the Metaclasses.plist opened it in textedit, replaced the text by copy-pasting the plugintext. and then saved it.

When I opens iSync and searching for new phone it can’t find it… Could be something about that it’s a danish phone and iSync edition?

I have a Nokia 6500 classic and have tried everything, but cant get it to work with iSync. I did exactly as directed, and replaced the contents of that .plist file with the one liste above (simply copy and paste?), but when I try add the device to iSync it finds it but says “iSync cannot connect to this device” (almost as if I havent done a thing)? I used a similar patch/method to get my 6300 working that is perfect, no problems. Any ideas anyone?

Made the plug-in work with my 6500c, but when sync’ing, the phone stalls at 143 of 180 contacts – halts 1/2 minute and disconnects with the message “Data transfer not possible. Check data connection”. Maybe content in a particular record the sync does not like? I checked for special characters öäü etc. I have those all over – would that be an issue?

Nokia 6310 has worked after a bit of fiddling about. I had to connect via the Bluetooth preferences first, iSync could not find the device at all.

Anyway working now and thanks very much!

  197. April 11th, 2008 at 03:16 | #197

Thanks for providing the plugins. However, instead of replacing the MetaClasses.plist, you should copy the appropriate plugin (e.g. Nokia-6131.phoneplugin) and replace the file therein. You can then place your copy at /Library/PhonePlugins/, which is part of the search list. To finish up, you could also replace the picture and various identifier string in your new plugin.

  198. April 11th, 2008 at 04:02 | #198

If you were to create such an improved plugin I would gratefully link to you assuming you fully documented it and provided 24×7x365 support.

I have so many negative comments, i normally just delete them but this time, the sarcasm escaped. Apologies.

Just been testing the 6301 with isync 3.0. I find that my “all day” items in ical get sent to the phone with a 01:00 start time, and a 13:00 finish (this is the same for multiday “all day” events. This is not so much of a problem, but… when I sync for a second time the ical calender is updated with these times too.

I have a 6300 too and don’t seem to have the same problem with the (it syncs with the time up to the phone, but does not mess up the calender on a subsequent sync).

    Any ideas?

I have tried to set up your plug with a Nokia 2360 – on the first sync when pairing it works (i.e. after setting up via set up bluetooth device the contacts move across) – then when you try to “join network on nokia 2360″ in the blue tooth menu on the mac, the phone says it is connected and then almost immediately the mac book pro 10.4.11 Intel due core says “blue tooth network fails” am I doing something wrong?

    Hi James, Darren here.

Do you remember we communicated a little while ago about the plugin for the 6500 slide? You were kind enough to refund me when it didn’t work and hanged when syncing contacts? You even called me up!

Anyway… I wonder if you have had any progress with this? The other 3rd party plugin that I notified you about (and you have since linked too) still hangs when syncing the address book, even though it does now sync the calendar with iCal.

I lost a load of contacts on my Mac when trying to find a solution to this and am still having no joy. I just wondered if you have had any updates your end?

If you could email me James, I would appreciate it very much!

Take care and thanks for your efforts

    James, you rock!
I bought a Nokia 6085 so I could have a simple phone that sync’d with my iMac. Wasn’t happy when I learned that iSync did not support it, and Nokia did not provide a solution.
I was nervous about replacing the contents of the MetaClasses.plist, but I did it with TextEdit. And then iSync worked with my phone flawlessly!

    Hi James,

Thanks very much for the plug-in. My phone, a 6234, is recognised and contacts and events sync.

There are just two anomalies occuring which are very odd.

    1) All day events are shifted one day forward on my phone from the correct date in iCal. I can sync numerous times and the phone and iCal event will remain on disparate days. I’ve checked all my time settings & time zones match up, and am now stumped!

    2) Some birthdays show in my phone calendar, and some don’t. It seems that the iCal birthday calendar makes recurring event from the persons date of birth. I have found a setting in the plugin (dontSyncEventBeforeDate)which says to ignore all events before 1980. Could this be the problem? I have tried to change the setting, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference?

Any ideas of suggestions gratefully received :)

    Regard, Nicola

it took me a while to find out how to adapt a *.plist file (download PlistEdit Pro for fellow n00bs), but I’m glad I did. My Nokia 2630 has synced perfectly.

My next question would be why does Nokia not support this themselves??

Hey, I also used 3109.txt and adapted it for my new 3110c. Works well, however, is there any way to change the treatment of whole day events that are made in isync? On the phone they appear as from 2pm to 2pm…

    thanks, Hannes

Thanks for your plugin. I am using the 6288 phone. it is the 5th plugin I have tried, but all give me the same error message:”data transfer not possible: check data connection”. the message appears just after all contacts have beed read and then syncronization is stopped.
do you perhaps have any idea what is wrong?
I am sing tiger 10.4.11 and isync 2.4.
On windows over paralles on the same mac syncronization works with no problem.
    would appreciate your help.

    Hi James

I got a 6085 as a replacement phone (for my 6102, which I adored) and I hate it so much, but your plugin just made my life a whole lot brighter!

Worked perfectly. It took a little reading of other people’s comments – like, metaclasses.plist is a text file, and you have to open it in text edit, not omni outliner, which is what wants to open it. These were minor bumps on the road to isync happiness.

THANK YOU for your generosity and kindness!
    Love,
    Alia

I was able to get the plist file copied into a file for a Nokia 6131 and then renamed the file – totally straightforward – but upon scanning for devices with iSync, the only message I get is “6301 is not supported by iSync”. What’s the next step to recognize, then synchronize this device? What did I overlook?

    James,

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I have a new Nokia 6085. I downloaded the text file. Renamed it MetaClasses.plist and put it in the Nokia 6131 plugin folder. I tried to sync with the folder named 6131 and then figured I had to rename that folder 6085. In any case, my phone is detected by the computer, but it says “this device is not supported.”

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I’m planning to buy a NOKIA 2600. I need a simple phone, but i’d really like to be able to use the simplest way (iSync?) to sync all my Addressbook and iCal info with my cellphone BOTH WAYS. Can this phone do that or do i need to buy another one?

It seems SonyEriccson and Samsung don’t provide syncing with Apple, only PC…

    Thanks for helping me out.
ps: i don’t know if this is the right place for this kind of question, but i assure you: when you’re completely new to blogs and such, you surf around for half an hour befopre you even find a place to type a question ;-) )

Thank you for this plug-in, it works beautifully… I only wish I had found it BEFORE sending an extremely snotty email to Nokia customer support, using the word “update” in quotation marks at least three times (as in “I would have thought, since the 7373 is an “updated” version of the 7370, it would have MORE features, not less”).

I’m trying the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic. Seems to be working at first but now it will constantly stop the sync in the middle and failed. Not sure why. I could erase all contacts on the phone and then sync again that would work. But that’s quite inconvenient however.

Hmmm. I’ve tried installing the 6085 plugin a couple of times and I still can’t get it to work.
    Nokia 6085
This device is not supported by iSync.

    What I did was

    Stopped iSync.
I copied and renamed my 6555.phoneplugin to 6085.phoneplugin.
Then I replaced the MetaClasses.plist file in the new 6085 directory under Contents/Resources.
    Started iSync.
    Went to Devices>Add device.

    What am I doing wrong?

When installed on July 27, 2008, this software worked great on my Nokia 6085, but has now stopped working. Now it won’t complete the sync. If I just try to sync contacts (a relatively short list), on my Mac I get the message

[Nokia 6085] The connection was lost while talking to the phone.
    Device “Nokia 6085″ synchronization failed

The phone indicates that it sent all the contact data to the Mac, but did not get anything back.

More odd is when I try to also sink my calendar (more data to transfer). Then things seem to start okay on both devices, but the phone actually winds up powering off before the sync completes!

I tried deleting my MetaClasses.plist and reinstalling the one from your website, but that did not affect the above behavior.

Nokia 6301 — works reliably only with the calendar.

I HAS worked with phone entries but stopped after I backed-up on a PC with Nokia suite and/or edited the phonebook with the PC suite module. Willy (entry 304) writes that his sync stops at 152. Mine stopped at 72 or 79 depending on the state of my phonebook at the time. So it seems that the PC suite is making entries incompatible with the xml description provided above.

  305. November 16th, 2008 at 15:02 | #306

Nokia 6301 — works reliably only with the calendar : update

Apparently, the problem comes after making a *BACKUP* on a PC with Nokia’s PC suite. (maybe a flag or something?).

To restore syncability between a Mac’s iSync and a Nokia 6301, start afresh:

    1) delete the N6301 contact entries using the PC suite
    2) remove the N6301 device from iSync
    3) reinstall the N6301 device

    Worked for me

Hi there. I just got a new nokia 2630, cheap and cheerful, but since it had bluetooth, i figured i’d find a way to sync it with isync. The script here didn’t work for me. When adding a device in isync, it recognises the phone as V630i, and says it cannot connect to that device. I’ve successfully synced other nokias to this machine, by doing a search & replace on another nokia pref file. Anyone know is there a manual installation method for the 2630? Thanks, John.

6500C worked great, however, the download (from Michael Legnered (http://legnered.com/)) needed to be put in the folder
referenced on THIS page, not the one instructed on ML’s page.

Hi! Thanks for your work! I’m trying it on my Nokia 2760. Contacts works fine, but there are problems with the calendar as not all of it comes in (from iCal to phone).

    Good evening,
I am writing because the plug provided on your site for the Nokia 2630 does not work with iSync 3.0.2 comes with the OSX 10.5.5
It is there a solution or another plug for this phone?
    Thank you in advance

To sync with Nokia 5220 XpressMusic just use the 5310 XpressMusic http://blog.james-lloyd.com/mytools/nokia/5310XpressMusic.txt and Find and Replace 5310 with 5220. Worked like a charm.

You’re brilliant! 5220 works ace with 5310 when replacing the respective numbers. thanks so much!!!
can’t believe they don’t support their products properly.

Well I must be doing something very wrong! installed plug in as suggested. My Nokia 6085 connects by bluetooth but I still get the message “This device is not supported by iSync”. What might I be doing/not doing!

Works a treat on my Mac (OS X 10.5.5) syncing via bluetooth to my Nokia 2630. Thanks!

  322. December 12th, 2008 at 22:53 | #323

    Hi folks,
Having some problems. I have iSync 3.0.2 (574.0), a PowerBook G4 running Mac OSX 15.5.5 and the Nokia 2630. I followed instructions step by step and I’m able to sync my iCal fine but not the contacts. It always fails even when I tried syncing just 6 contacts.

    I tried several things:
    -Restarting iSync and my laptop.
    -Merging the data.
-Erasing the phone data and overriding.
-Syncing many contacts at once, all contacts, or just a handful.

NOTHING WORKED. Always got the following message:

    Saturday, December 13, 2008 1:21 AM
[Nokia 2630] An unexpected error occurred.
    Device “Nokia 2630” synchronization failed.

    Any ideas?

I installed your plugin in OSX 10.5.6, and now I can connect and synchronize my Nokia 6233 with iSync.

    Many thanks!!!

    Hi James,

First of all, thanks for this great work. I have used your script for the 2760 and it works really fine.
Now I am looking for a script for the 2680 slide which I just offered to my girlfriend.
Have you got any plan to do a script for this one??
Also, I was wondering if I could use the script of the 2760 as the menus of the 2760 and the 2680 are very similar, knowing I should probably add a section to the script… But there, how to do it??? Can you give an advice on how to patch a script in order to make it compliant with a new phone… It would be great!!!
    Thanks for your work, anyway…
    Cheers,
    Al

If you’re interested in setting up a 7210 Supernova with Isync, here’s a diff for /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/Nokia-7370.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist

    319c319
    < 0×0421/0×0414

    > 0×0421/0×017A
    321c321
    < Nokia+Nokia 7370

    > Nokia+Nokia 7210 Supernova

Ensure you sync from the default screen and not in contacts or calendar – but I think this is a usual caveat.

I found a way to sync with 5220 XpressMusic. I used the 5310 Xpressmusic plugin and changed every 5310 in the file to 5220. I also renamed the folder and tiff file. Hope this works for you too.

    Hi All –
Any way to have the 5310 synch ONLY the requested contacts? I seem to always get the whole address book instead of the selected group.
Suggestions? Know some mods I need to make to the file? Help? Anyone?

Thanks, 6301 plug in works perfectly. All I did was copy the 6131 folder, change the name to Nokia-6301.phoneplugin, and then replaced the MetaClasses.plist with your file, works just the same.

To the person who said sync-ing the 7210 supernova with iSync was possible,
Can you lay out more detailed instructions? I’m new to this sort of thing. Or if you made a file and submitted it to this site, I’m sure many others would be very grateful! Thanks!

    hello!
first: thanks for all the work you put in this site! it is really a great thing!
i use the plugin for my nokia 2630. in the beginning i encountered the same problem as others here (isync stopping the sync without all data being synced). i finally got it to work – i was stubborn enough to restart the sync until it had all data synced; i am not sure, if this is the right way to work this problem, but it worked for me… :) .
Now I have all my data synced but I have the problem that ical-dates that last a whole day (like bdays) are displayed in the phone as dates from 1:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Is there any way I can change this?
    i use the nokia 2630, mac os x 10.5.6 and isync 3.0.2
    cheers,
    annika

After following instalation indications, computer and phone (Nokia 2760) recognize each other. After initiating isync it transfers agenda and it starts transfering contacts, but it stops when it gets to 64 contacts. The process freezes sometime and then connection is lost. I have tried several times with the same result. Would it be possible I am doing something wrong?
