Nokia 6085 iSync Plugin

September 11th, 2007 James

This has been superceeded by a Nokia Series 40 script

iSync 2.4
Update: i have created a script to make plugins for any series 40 nokia here

I have been trying to get my Nokia 6085 to sync with iSync 2.4 for some time. I finally cracked it, if you replace the Nokia 6131 plugin with the code below it all works :) .

  • Right click iSync from the with applications in the finder and “show package contents”
  • Navigate to
    • Contents\Plugins\ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice\Contents\
    • Plugins\Nokia-6131.phoneplugin\Contents\Resources
  • make a backup of MetaClasses.plist
  • replace contents of MetaClasses.plist with the file here Nokia 6085 isync plugin (remove the .txt extension)

You rock!! Thank you so much for doing this. The Nokia 6085 wasn’t my first choice as it was what I got from an insurance claim. I was rather bummed when I saw that iSync didn’t natively support it. Especially so when I could see/answer incoming calls on my Mac via Address Book. I’m back in action again thanks to your nifty fix.

  3. September 29th, 2007 at 04:41 | #3

thanks for the information. However, I am not sure what you mean by “replace the contenst of Metaclasses.plist”. I took the original Metaclasses.plist file out of the Resources folder and replaced it with the Nokia 6085 plugin above-also removed the .txt file name. To get the plug in I clicked on the link from your site and saved the file to my desktop. Was this correct? thanks for the help, Jeff

after replacing the Metasclasses.plist (without iSync running BTW) you should be able to run iSync and add your 6085 as a device to sync.

i don´t know if this is the right place to ask this but after changing the code line:
    DontSyncEventsPriorToDateIsEnabled.default-value
from TRUE to FALSE iSync still deletes entries older than 1 month (max) from my phone´s calendar. It seems it has no effect in iSync´s menu option. is there any way to mantain entries for more than a month? Regards.

Hi! I followed by the book the steps to get my Nokia 6085 phone syncronised with iSync and it doesn’t work. It says: “Nokia 6131 not supported by iSync”.

    Can you help me?

OK! I found the problem… It was simple but had to be done: the file MetaClasses is case sensitive! I modified the file name and it worked! Thanks anyway!!!

    Thanks! It works.

I don’t need to pay for text to use reminder.
I use Remember the milk and GCal. Then subscribe them in iCal and sync.
    Viola!

FYI Google Calendar sends free sms reminders for your entries and even a daily agenda if you want.

if that doesnt work, please let me know the version of OSX your running etc. as this will help us find out the problem.

    Hi James,

I got my 6085 to sync, but it didn’t send all of the contacts on my phone to Address Book. I’m running Tiger. Any suggestions?

I’m having the same problem – the contacts sync from the computer to the phone, but not the other way around. I used the 6085 plugin listed above, but should I have used the Nokia Series 40 script? Anything that can be done?

I just discovered that if I save the numbers to the phone’s memory, they will sync, but if I save them to the SIM card, they won’t. Is there a way to sync the SIM card from the computer to the SIM card?

James, great job. It did work. Fantastic.

But for some reason I cannot get my 6085 to get the information from my Mac. Only the new contacts from the 6085 will go to the Mac, and not otherwise.

Would you know how to fix this?

    Thans a lot,

    September 12th, 2008 at 15:20 | #42

Hey there. I am having difficulties trying to sync my 6085 with my contacts list. I have uploaded your fix and it works for the most part, but won’t sync all of the contacts. It always seems to miss some. I am attempting to sync 350 contacts and it seems to stop at 237? Not sure why? Finally gives me a sync failed message.

iCal calendars synced fine. I see Rem Merry had the same problem back in June. Interested in finding a solution.

    Cheers, Marcrest

I am stuck @ “replace the contents of MetaClasses.plist with the contents? of the plug in”. Could you explain that in a more detailed way? When I open the MetaClasses.plist file another program opens and when I save it, it won’t save as a plist file. Thanks!

The only cable I have to connect my Nokia 6085 to my Mac is a USB- what other type of cables are all of you using? I successfully went through all the steps, only to find I couldn’t sync w/ my USB cable! Help!

  52. Ashley
    March 4th, 2009 at 13:51 | #52

(Assuming your 6085 is like mine, with only a pop-port jack and an 1/8th inch audio jack), Considering the only data cable I can find available for the 6085 is pop-port to USB, and USB won’t work w/ this script for ISync, would it work for me to use my Nokia AD-46 audio adapter to go into my analog audio line input minijack on my IMac using an 1/8th inch to 1/8th inch cable? Can I transfer all data this way? HELP!

  54. Barry
    April 2nd, 2009 at 21:16 | #54

Wow, I thought it to be simple as I read above, but I guess I’m just not a tech type.
I went through the steps as explained.
I wasn’t quite sure what (remove the .txt extension) meant. I assumed it meant that it might read as a text file, so instead of using a text program to copy, I used dream weaver which is in HTML to my knowledge. Also, I wasn’t sure what to name the file that I was replacing.
I tried it a few different ways with a few different names. Anyhow, now the whole thing is screwy. Now, I am prompted to remove the whole 6131 folder. What a bummer. Inside that folder still remains,
    com.nokia.6131.tiff,
    phoneconduit.plist,
    and SyncEngine.plist.
I guess I got in over my head.
    Any suggestions?

When I click on I-sync, i get this message
The following plug in doesn’t work with this version of isync. Click the arrow to show the plug in, move it, or delete it, and then open isync again. It then shows me NOKE61.phoneplugin

    Nokia Blues.
So, I managed to copy and paste the Plist fine.
My computer has identified my 6085, but when I Isync a message comes up in the Isync window saying “this device not supported by Isync”
My phone responds with a beep. So, there is communication happening.

Any suggestions as to how to get Isync to recognize the 6085?

    July 23rd, 2009 at 04:51 | #61

Im really sorry if this is an incredibly dense question. I have followed all the instructions above and the new file now sits in the same folder.

If i right click this new file and select send file to bluetooth device it will happily send a copy to my phone which is received but I cant open it on my phone – not sure if i should be able to?

But if i go back to isync and try to select my phone to send isync to (I assume this is what i need to do to get my contacts onto my macbook) it doesnt even show up on the list as being an available bluetooth device?

    Any assistance gratefully received!!!

PS – I didnt know what backup was so i just copied it and then replaced the file – did I do the right thing?

same problem here mw90. I double click, and isync crashes. I even tried copying an existing entry and modifying just the model number details, same problem, so I’m guessing that snow leopard’s iSync is expecting to find something elsewhere about the phone…

Hi James, I really appreciated the plug in for the Nokia 6085 which worked beautifully with Leopard. However, now that Snow Leopard is out will you be upgrading the plug ins. I know it is a lot to ask but I just thought I would give it a shot.

  67. September 24th, 2009 at 23:12 | #67

I wont be able to develop a solution for Snow Leopard until I can get it to install on my XPS.

If you find somthing in the shorterm please let me know so i can link to it!

I installed your plugin for my nokia 2630 but when isync finds the phone it says double click to add device. isync then crashes while adding.

I’m using an iMac with OS 10.6.1 and iSync 3.1.0
